Gether Contemporary is proud to present the group exhibition DARE TO DREAM, where five international visual artists shed light on the painting's ability to create landscapes and image surfaces that blend illusion and dreams with reality. The exhibition showcases works by Laura Klünter (DE), Pierre Knop (DE), Jochen Mühlenbrink (DE), Gioele Amaro (IT), and Richard Woods (UK).

For the exhibition, British artist Richard Woods has created a site-specific ceiling installation in his iconic comic book-like style, which quite literally turns the gallery upside down. Woods' reality-mimicking illusion forms the overarching framework for DARE TO DREAM, which explores the relationship between imagination, dreams, and perception.

German painter Laura Klünter creates works that construct themselves as magnificent patchworks of mythological figures, classical art historical motifs, and computer pixels, offering an analog language for digital image production and its meta-fiction. Klünter's works, much like dreams, organize concepts without physical limitations, allowing the process of motif formation to become the narrative itself. Italian artist Gioele Amaro also employs pixels as a tool to produce captivating and vibrant works, whose quivering light easily engulfs and carries the viewer further away from the psysichal world. The luminous color fields from the "DigitalDust" series are digitally painted but enter reality as physical objects that challenge the very notion of painting. The works span a domain between the concrete and the virtual in a borderland that is in constant flux.

With German artist Jochen Mühlenbrink, illusion and dream take on a different and more tangible character. Mühlenbrink's impressive work with Trompe l'oeil technique acts like a persistent magic trick, and the transition from raw material to final work seems almost mythical. Standing in front of one of Jochen's pieces is, in many ways, akin to embarking on a long and daydreaming train journey, where movement through the landscape is captured in simple and frozen moments, concentrated in fleeting landscapes seen through windows wet with dew. Pierre Knop's works also convey a form of daydreaming fantasy. Knop approaches his landscapes as a sort of archaeologist of memories, combining different media and perspectives to create enchanting scenes that blend natural surroundings, personal memories, postcards, and dreams.

DARE TO DREAM simultaneously embodies the beautiful landscapes, enchanting surfaces, and mythical worlds that one easily falls in love with, as well as the small deceptions and glitches that prevent one from completely disappearing into the dream.
